And in the blue corner!
Every Friday morning we have a MMA Grappling Tournament instead of ordinary MMA training. It goes like this:
1. The MMA class is divided into two groups - Beginner & Intermediate/Advanced (usually 8 people in each group)
2. You state your name and pick a number from 1-8
3. The referee draw lots who's facing who
4. Everyone have at least two fights. The ones with the best results compete in the semi final and then there is a final in each group.
5. The winner from the Beginner group face the winner from the Intermediate/Advanced group
I set up a goal that I would at least win one Friday fight during my stay at Tiger Muay Thai. I Actually cleared that goal two weeks ago when I got Jessica in a choke and she tapped out (gave up).
This Friday (yesterday) I was a bit nervous before the weekly tournament. I sprained my thumb ten days ago and haven't fully recovered yet. My thumb felt kinda OK during warm up but still I was a little bit wired.
The tournament turned out great. I did lost the first fight on points but won my second one. I managed to beat a heavier, bigger AND taller guy through submission. I got him in a triangle choke which kinda looks like this:
Despite the fact that I lost my first fight I still ended up in the semi final. I fought against a fellow Englishman who probably weights about 20-25 kilos more then me, but I'm taller then him. The figh was good, he's strong but I caught him in an arm bar.
Cause I won the semi I made my way to the beginners final! Way further then I expected after 3 weeks of practice. I was psyched.
In the final I was totally dominated. He ended the game in less then a minute. But hey! I totally won two fights and ended up in the final! Real happy!
